Events

The nature center hosts various events for nature enthusiasts. An Evening with Raptors is an event for people enraptured by raptors, including falcon fanciers and bird buffs. The event gives you a chance you meet the object of your admiration face-to-face. The nature center, which is managed by the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), hosts the event and encourages people of all ages to attend. The evening begins with an educational presentation on birds of prey/ raptors and the falconry sport, which involves training raptors to catch wild game to enable birds and trainers to become hunting partners.

Falconry started in 700 B.C.E or even much earlier than that. In the later part of the evening, you’ll have an opportunity to meet living raptors close up. Missouri falconers arrange for a “meet and greet” session with their birds. You’ll have plenty of time to see the birds in close proximity and take photographs, just make sure you bring your camera with you. You can also ask questions about these birds and the falconers will gladly answer them. MDC naturalists are also available to answer all of your questions. While admission to the event is free, advanced registration is often for you to be able to take part. The event is one of the numerous programs offered by MDC in the entire St. Louis area.

So, if you’re enthusiastic about discovering nature, then An Evening with Raptors might be all you need to fulfill your quest. Fortunately, the event is free and all you have to do is register in advance. The nature center is one of the best places in the entire St. Louis area to visit with family and loved ones, especially your children. You’ll all get a chance to interact with nature through a wildlife-viewing window and ask questions to help you get to know more about the birds.
