Blanchette Park in St. Charles MO
Blanchette Park was acquired on 26 September 1914 and it became the first city park. It also marked the beginnings of the St. Charles Parks & Recreation Department. However, it has since evolved to accommodate many features, thanks to the numerous changes and improvements that have been done over time. Today, Blanchette Park is still well known for meeting and exceeding citizens’ expectations of value and excellence, as they offer remarkable recreational experience. Some of the most remarkable upgrades to the park include updating the playground surfacing with 100% Missouri Recycled Scrap Tire. Missouri Department of Natural Resources provided the funding for the upgrades. The new climbing was completed and reopened in early 2018 and became accessible to the public back in May the same year.
Facilities
Memorial Hall is among the rolling green hills of the park. It was built as a tribute to St. Charles War Veterans and to act as a stately reminder of the city’s past. The park is located in a 44-acre area or space and features a playground area, Blanchette Aquatic Facility, 4 picnic shelters, 1 football field, 2 large and 1 small baseball diamonds, 12 horseshoe courts, 3 tennis/pickleball courts, paved hike/bike trail park, little library, sledding hill, Rau garden, Memorial Hall Community Building, Angel of Hope statue, and Concession stand restrooms open between April 1 and November 14 and restrooms adjacent to the Aquatic Facility open all year round.
Rules and Regulations
To maintain law and order, Blanchette Park is also governed by certain rules and regulations. To begin with, visitors are not allowed to litter the place and are encouraged to be considerate of fellow park users. Noise, loud music, and other related disruptive behaviors are also prohibited. If you enjoy alcoholic beverages, you are prohibited from drinking them in parking lots or on roadways. Motorized vehicles are also prohibited from accessing off roadways and motorists should only park in designated areas only. For tennis fanatics, tennis should only be played on tennis courts and not any other place. Other prohibited sports and activities include golfing; horseback riding; wading; overnight camping; skating in/on lakes, rivers, or ponds; swimming, bathing or changing clothing clothes in non-designated facilities; use of fireworks in city parks; pet liter, pets that are not on a leash, or a leash longer than 6 feet; selling, advertising or solicitation; and entry to parks, places or areas that have been marked as closed.
